Three people were killed and six more were injured in a crash Saturday in Rock County caused by a van going through a stop sign just west of Whitewater, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The crash happened about noon on Saturday when a van that was heading east on East County Line Road did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 12. An SUV heading south on Highway 11 then hit the driver’s side of the van, and a truck pulling a fifth wheel trailer hauling hay that was heading north on Highway 12 collided with the front of the van, Capt. Mark Thompson said in a statement.
During the crash, two women and a man were ejected from the van and later declared dead at the scene, Thompson said, adding that names will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Four more passengers of the van were taken to nearby hospitals. A woman was flown by MedFlight helicopter with life-threatening injuries, while two men and a woman suffered severe injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Thompson said.
